So things here at WTFRUPlaying are going kinda slow - I thought i'd post something about the recent NHL activity.
So Toronto has yet to recieve a win - and it's actually kinda sad because they got some pretty "big" accusitions over the summer. And it's really hard to say who is to blame. The players for their lack of trying? Ron Wilson for his lack of coaching? Brian Burke for his belief that the players he acquired would just get the job done?
In all honesty its all three. The players dont seem to be clicking or creating any real chemistry to translate into a solid offensive push for the Leaf's. Their goaltending is abosultely atrocious. And I mean that w/ a grain of salt. Joey McDonald has the best save % of the 3 at .875 - Vesa Toskola who was a marvelous goaltender behind Nabokov in SJ , has put up great numbers in the past but doesn't seem to be getting into any rhythm w/ a .812 save % and 5.56GGA?!!? man thats crazy. Also the "monster" has only seen 2 games, posted a decent .894 sv % and 3.08GGA - but Im sure they won't play him unless they feel like they have a solid team upfront.
Their Defense seemingly got better w/ Francios Beauchemin(miss you on the ducks buddy), Kaberle and Komisarek were always solid players. Luke Schenn was also a nice touch. But again - no production. Offensively the addition of Phil Kessel was thought to be a strong point but getting a player while he's injured is like buying a car and having no gasoline. Their offense doesnt seem to be going anywhere too soon. Which is very disappointing because its a good core, just again- no clicking or connection.
Coaching - I think Ron is trying his best w/ his pieces and I think the management realizes this because he hasn't been fired yet :0 Francios Allaire is a great goaltending coach, but whatever he is saying or doing isn't breaking in soon enough for a team that has yet to win a game this season.
Management - Burke really did do his best to attain key players for a strong team. He went out and got a goalie, got some D-men and some forwards to mix it up. Told Ron - "hey handle it buddy." I respect Burke, especially since he built our 2007 Stanley Cup roster(The Ducks). But maybe this time it was a miss? instead of a hit. However - the season is still young, and as many (every) hockey fan knows. It's not how you begin the season that matters. All that matters is what happens after January. If you can create a strong enough push towards the final 3 months, you have a strong post-season presence in the bag.
But for now Toronto - Why The Fuck are You Playing?
